Recently, I have decided to build a desktop for gaming. I want to be able to run games like CoD and Battle Field 4 on max settings. I have picked an EVGA Geforce GTX 770 4GB Dual w/ ACX Cooler graphics card for the system. But, the card is $400 dollars. I am looking at ways to decrease the price of this build, and the graphics card seems to be the most expensive thing. Will I be able to get away with a 300 dollar card and still be able to max out games?

You should be able to max out BF4 with a 760 or 7870.

You can max every game out right now at 1080p with a $300 card but I wouldn't expect to max next gen games. If your heavy into battlefield, you might want to go amd. Mantle gives you free frames if you buy a 7000 or R9 series card.

well if you are plaing on 1 monitor at 1080 there is no reason to get a 4g card a 2g will more than suffice.

AMD is worth considering if you play a lot of Battlefield due to Mantle. I suggest this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E168... 280x if you can spend another $10. It has very close performance to the 770, and can beat it with Mantle.

Well, are any new cards coming out in this year? If so, would the price of the 4gb card drop? If this is the case, I might as well wait to build the PC and buy it when the prices drop

It is doubtful that there will be a noticeable difference right after a new generation comes out. It's best to buy something good now. Also, that much VRAM does not mean much until you're going past 2k resolution, 3gb, or even 2, is fine. I think the 280x is the bet option for you.

Yeah, so you're really okay with 1gb. A 280x will give you the best BF4 performance. It will give you equal performance (generally within 1-2 FPS) to a 770 using DirectX11, and will likely outperform it using Mantle.

Would you recommend a NVidia card or an AMD card for Call of Duty Ghosts?

Doesn't matter much. They'll be about equal. I would go with AMD just because I believe Mantle will do well in the future.
