CPU or GPU? What to put in first.

Hey guys, quick question on some upgrades I'm planning on doing. Need to know which to do first basically, between my video card and my processor.

Currently I have an AMD phenom II 3 core processor, and I'm looking at putting the FX 8350 8 core in.

As far as the video card, the difference is going from a GTS 250 to a GTX 760.

What would give me the better boost off the bat?

I am looking to do activities that the extra cores would be nice, (Photoshop/video editing/streaming/gaming), but I game a ton and the graphic upgrade would be awesome as well.

Thanks for any feedback!

Solution
Couple of differen approaches, the GPU would give the biggest increase in gaming, but might consider the CPU first as it will also help and before longnVidia should be releasing the 8xx series of GPUs, so might see the 760 and it's like have their prices drop, so by waiting on the GPU might save some or be able to get a better one, nothing is really on-deck for new AMD CPUs so prices will prob remain constant

Hay_brah what model motherboard do you have?

Theone, I would be upgrading that as we'll. microcenter has a hell of a bundle deal with getting a CPU.
The one id be getting is MSI
970A-G46 AM3+ ATX AMD Motherboard

agree with this, and you will probably see a decent performance boost from a better CPU eitherway. It is the heart of the system, after all.

I would triple check that your motherboard supports that Processor though. I don't think it's AM3+, it's probably only AM2+

That motherboard looks to be very bad quality barely able to run an FX 8350 at stock speed. There is a very high risk of VRM failure if you use an FX 8 core CPU in that motherboard.

Use this page for your reference. It has plenty of information. http://www.overclock.net/t/946407/amd-motherboards-vrm-info-database

Look for 8+2 VRMs preferably.

Just scroll down to the AM3+ section and click on MSI down at the bottom of the chart. Look how horrible those MSI boards really are.

Thanks a ton theone , I ended up getting the processor before the video card as everyone suggested. And I picked up an SSD as well, was far too cheap to pass up haha. I looked over your link that talks about the different mobos and grabbed a gigabyte 990FXA-UD3, especially after seeing the MSI one saying to avoid 8 cores and overclocking..

Thanks everyone!
