I have done my first computer build and I am going through the learning process. I installed two hard drives. A 120GB Samsung SSD and a 2TB Western Digital HDD. I am on a ASRock Z87 Extreme 4 motherboard and I have the SSD connected to the top of ports SATA3_0_1 and the HDD connected to the bottom. I do not have close to the knowledge most on here have, so I have some questions that may sound dumb and I apologize for that. But, with the SATA3_0_1, is the top SATA port 0 or 1? The ASRock instruction manual said to minimize boot time the 0 port should be used. I just want to make sure I am using the right port.

As far as my other issue, when I go to the Start, then Computer screen, the only hard drive listed under the Hard Disk Drives is the SSD drive. I see the HDD drive in the control panel hardware device manager. I am very confused. If it helps, I am running Windows 7 Ultimate.

Thanks

Have you formatted the hard drive? Try using this method.

Open "My Computer"
Right click "Computer" on the left side
Click "Manage"
Click "Disk Management" in the window that pops up
See if it is under there. You can format it from there.

Thank you everyone. I believe I have it fixed now. I did end up changing the ports once I read Deemo13's post and I looked in the Disk Mgmt and it seems the SSD was in port 1 and HDD was in port 0 so I switched. Then I gave the drive a letter from Disk Mgmt, so thank you spooky2th. And I did already have all the motherboard drivers installed. I think I am now officially done. I really enjoyed my first build and I already want to update my new computer. LOL.
