G.Skill QVL Issues

So I recently got 32 GB of G.Skill Trident X 2400 MHz, 4x8 GB, and when I get my tax return, I was also going to upgrade my motherboard and my GPU. I don't really need the mobo upgrade, but I will admit I'm doing it largely for aesthetic reasons. The GPU, RAM, and MOBO will all have a black/red color combo, etc. Anyway, the motherboard I'm looking at getting is the Maximus VI Formula, I know the Hero is an option, but I just really like the Formula feature set better. So the issue I'm running into now, is the memory I have is not on the QVL for the motherboard on ASUS' website, and the motherboard isn't on the QVL for this RAM on G.Skill's website. Is this going to be a problem? The Maximus VI Gene/Hero/Extreme motherboards are all approved, but the Formula is no where to be found on any of the Trident X kits, only on the Ripjaws Z, from what I can tell. Even my old 1600 MHz Trident X doesn't show the Formula being an approved board. How can it be that only one of the Maximus VI is incompatible with this RAM? Since the other three approved, I don't think it's just a matter of them not having gotten around to testing it, etc.

Side note: Tradesman1, if you end up reading this, I've read your thing on motherboard QVLs, but what do you do when the RAM QVL doesn't approve the motherboard?

The Formula is a newer mobo than the others, but the Tridents will work fine with it, as will the 2666 Tri's those are the highest sets I've tried on it. Are you planning to water cool the mobo and rest of the rig, that's the biggest difference between the Hero and the Formula. As far as things being on or not being on the QVL, basically DRAM is DRAM and to me QVLs are basically worthless. If the mobo chipset can support the freq (and sometimes even if it doesn't), it's still the CPU and the MC (memory controller) in the CPU which is the biggest determining factor in what DRAM you can run...The days of the MC being on the mobo and the mobo determining what DRAM you can possibly run are long gone with the demise of the socket 775.

I am thinking about water cooling the mobo, yes, which is another reason I was looking at the Formula, that and the on board audio and the armor, etc. Aesthetically it seems like it would be a nice set up, with the Trident X RAM and was also going to get ASUS DirectCU II 780 Ti with it. In my current set up now I have a Cooler Master Seidon 120M, but with the Formula coming with a preinstalled water block I was thinking about getting a custom loop set up to include the mobo and the CPU. I've never installed a custom loop, but I figure if you can build a computer, you can build a water loop, especially if using a tutorial video etc. I don't know much about custom loops, but I really like the look of the one ASUS shows installed on the Formula in the images. Would you happen to know what loop this is http://www.asus.com/websites/global/products/Dbn0i1Jz1yusKO7u/M6F_BG10.jpg

Also, thanks for once again helping me with a memory related problem. I don't know if you remember the thread, but you're the reason I decided to get the 2400 MHz kit and it's been working great, so thanks again!

On the Loop question, there's a Asus rep that frequents the forums, can PM him to his screen name of raja@asus (yes that's the screen name for PMs not an email address ;) ) he may know, might even have been in on the build...Not positive how often he comes here.

No problem in helping, I try to as often as possible, was a pleasant surprise to go to a new thread and see a question to me by name, thanx....Loved the Tri's from my very first set, and that's almost 2 years ago, used about 100 of the Tri sets since then
