problems with my i7-q720 @1.6ghz

so in the past couple of days i have been having some issues with my laptop processor in games. specifically world of warcraft and diablo III. I recently reran the windows index score. and my cpu score dropped from 7 to 3.7. What do guys?

If you are still using the stock HSF, the plastic HSF clip has a tendency to warp over time and its time may simply be up. Practically everyone I know including myself who have used an LGA775/115x/1366/etc. CPU for more than 3-4 years had to replace their HSF because of this.

The severe performance degradation is simply thermal throttling kicking in.

other games like league of legends work just fine. some slight performance drop than usual but but nothing substantial like the drop in world of warcraft and diablo III. in those games ive dropped from 60fps to 7fps.
