Tom's,

Comcast
Modem Arris TM722G/CT
Router Linksys WRT160N v3

I moved my modem and router to another room so they're closer
to my laptop. More wireless speed. In the original location
the router speed was 54.0MB most of the time but in the new
location it starts out at 54 but as soon as I get an internet
connection it drops to 1 or 2. The Ethernet connection in
the new location is 50MB+. I didn't make any changes to any
of the hardware or settings. Moved it all back to the old
room and router speed is back to 54???

Any suggestions?

Jerry

Hi, there might be interference in the alternate location. There are a large number of things that can cause this like other 802.11 devices, microwave ovens, cordless phones, Bluetooth devices, wireless video cameras, outdoor microwave links, wireless game controllers, fluorescent lights and even bad electrical connections.

Seems like the problem is interference . Further ,as a rule of thumb, its a good practice to have the wireless router centrally located in the house . The higher up your wireless router usually the better.
