sound cards, would i need one if im using a asus rampage VI if im going to be running a surround sound system

I'm looking at sound cards for my rig I will be running an Asus rampage VI black edition, should I buy a sound card because I will be streaming music through the computer blasting out my surround sound system and my head phones as well as this is it good for games and videos and movies?

If using analogue output you don't 'need' a soundcard, it'll just be better quality than onboard if you have speakers good enough to highlight the difference.

If using digital output there will be no difference.

However many half decent soundcards encode digital surround on-the-fly so games - which don't have digital encoding - will work in 5.1 etc.on a surround system. I'm not sure how many, and indeed whether your board will do that so it would be worth checking if it interests you.
