H80i Not Cooling FX-6300 Properly

I have reapplied the thermal paste material using Arctic Silver 5 with the dot method and then letting the pressure from tightening the heatsink spread it out twice and the credit card method once and nothing is working. I can't do anything except the mildest of activities. What the hell is going on?

The part of the cooler that you attatch to the CPU has a large and small cable coming out of it. The large one must be connected to the power supply, and the small one to a fan input on the motherboard. Make sure they are both connected. If they are, feel the radiator. Is it cold? If it is not, and you are sure that all cables are connected, then the cooler might be faulty.

My Cougar fans are connected to the H80i so it can control them. Yes they are spinning and the RPMs are correct as well. HWinfo says the pump is working between 2200-2400 RPM. I

I am using a Coolermaster 311 Blue.

I have the front fan as an intake and the Push-Pull fans on my radiator as intake as well.

All this happened because today was the day I planned to clean out my PC for the first time in 5 months. I cleaned out all the fans using compressed can air and isopropyl alcohol on cutips to get out all the stubborn dust.

Idle temps with nothing going and no load are at 50C. Temps are recorded with CoreTemp program to get actual CPU temp.

About the cooler not working, I got it before because things weren't being cooled properly and I decided to go with a really powerful cooler to make sure it worked. The first install with the preapplied thermal paste worked perfectly. Full load temps NEVER rose above 30C even when using Prime95. Temps started creeping up over time due to dust and I clean it out occasionally only this time it isn't doing shit.

Open the case, put your hand inside and feel the radiator. Is it cold? Are you sure that both cables on the cooler are connected?

Yes the radiator is cold.

It seems my cooling issues have disappeared. I think what happened was that when I took the radiator off to clean the dust out, I knocked an air bubble loose and it started messing with fluid flow. After letting it sit for a couple hours, it appears the air bubble may have moved out of the way.

I double checked to make sure the temps were stable by starting up Civ 5 with mods on Huge map and load all the textures to see the temperature response. The cooler took it like a champ. It never crossed 38 C.

Do you think an air bubble was the problem? I'm gonna keep an eye on it for a couple of days to make sure it stays cool.

I want to know what is going on so that I can stop this from happening again.

Air bubbles aren't common in these closed circuit coolers. Keep an eye on it for the next week or so. As long as it doesn't give you any trouble you shouldn't worry about it.

So the problems returned with my h80i. They were not nearly as low as I thought. I tightened the screws to hand tight to no avail. I got 78 C in World of Tanks on the highest settings where I got 40 C before. The radiator is still cold.

Any idea what to do next?
