I have a R9 270 at the moment and want to upgrade to a 280x. Will this power supply be sufficient for the new card? Or what do you recommend I upgrade to?

It is not enough, get a quality 550watt minimum! Example http://pcpartpicker.com/part/xfx-power-supply-p1550sxxb...
You are looking at system loads in the 400watt range and the Corsair CX PSU's have low temp capacitors that tend to fail if pushed to the limits.

The CX430 ONLY HAS 32 AMPS ON THE 12V RAIL.

A Radeon R9-280X needs at least 30 amps on the 12 v rail and a 550 watt power supply.

No it will not doesn't have enough power on the 12 volt rail.

Get this one.

It might run it, but really PSU's are really designed to run at around 50% capacity. The more you test them the less efficiently they run and the hotter they get. Personally I would be looking to get a 600w+ power supply for your gaming needs. Sticking with Corsair is not a bad option, but any quality power supply like Seasonic, XFX, Antec, etc
