Hello,
Greetings,
I am a fps gamer and you know how important ping is to me.
Is there any way to reduce it except upgrading my internet plan?
I already have packet sorting software (cfosspeed) and it is set to favour ping time,is there anything else i could do?

Thank you.

The biggest problem as bill001g mentions is that each packet will run across MANY networks so even having a fast speed will not reduce packet transfer delays.

As an example to ping tomshardware.com results in 19 hops. 1 is my router 4 are within my ISP and the others are all out of my and my ISPs control. If I lived physically closer to the Tom's Hardware servers, my ping would be reduced because I would have less hops(less routers having to inspect and forward my packet). The first 8 hops are under 35ms then it jumps to over 100 for the test of the trip ending at 137.

Set up port forwarding on your router to send all the traffic directly to you. The ports you need depend on the game, but a google search should help with that. It probably won't lower your ping, but it will stabilize it (ie less periods of heavy lag).

If your router has QoS it may be able to prioritize game traffic as well, but these features ONLY work if other users or software is also using the internet.

The best you can do aside of that is try to find a server with a lower ping(in general the closer the better.).

Even upgrading you internet will not likely help ping times. Ping when there are no other network issues measures the delay due to the distance between you and the server. The only true way to fix this is to move closer to the server.

You of course should not be playing games on wireless since interference in wireless will increase you ping times a lot.
