Power supply help...

I currently have an Antec Earthwatt 80+ rated 750w semi-modular power supply. I bought it originally a few years ago when I had no idea what to look for in PC components, so I now realize that 80+ is the bare minimum of efficiency in gaming power supplies, and that 750w is massive overkill for my PC. In retrospect, there were a lot better of options for the $125 I paid.

But as luck would have it, I've gotten more environmentally conscious since I got the PSU.
Are Antec Earthwatt PSUs really better for the environment, or just better for marketing?

Earthwatt is the name is all marketing. Pay attention to the actual rating (bronze, silver, gold, platinum). Keep in mind that the rating is while at 50% load. Your PC is not always at that load level so if you want to be more power conscious at idle levels, then look toward Platinum or Titanium rated units. In reality (on average) you are only talking about a few dollars a year difference between a budget friendly Bronze unit compared to a Gold rated unit. The money saved there (going with a Bronze unit) will account for many many years of additional costs to operate.
