Hey Guys,

After getting many opinions I am building a rig around my Sapphire HD7870 which I already own which I am going to Overclock!.

I already have the HD 7870 from a previous build which is only 2 months old.

Here are my proposed specs:

AMD FX-8350 OC'd to 4.6Ghz
(CPU Cooler Suggestions?)
Corsair 300R or Similar Case (Suggestions?)
Sapphire HD7870 Oc'd by 10 mhz
Corsair CX600
Corsair Vengeance 8GB 1600Mhz
1Tb Seagate Barracuda Drive

I am after a motherboard for around £60-70 which I can use to OC the FX and Also a board which has fast transfer rates so It doesn't hold back any of my components.

Also are there any improvements that I can do which doesn't increase the cost of the build for more £30?.

Cheers
Luke

spend a little more than that on the motherboard, as overclocking is somewhat limited if you don't get the right board (990x labeling is important for the amd side like z87 or z77 is important for intel.) otherwise it all looks good, and you could easily get 50mhz overclock out of the 7870

Thanks!

If I spend a bit more on the motherboard etc, What kind of performance would I be getting in games such as Far Cry 3 etc, also if I oc the HD7870 could I get it to similar performance of the 7950.

What is the max I could go to and If I did overclock it too say 1100mhz on the core, 1450mhz on the memory?, Would I get good performance in games such as Battlefield 3 and Far Cry 3 with a FX-8350 and parts from reputable companies, like most of my other parts are from Corsair!

the only parts that really affect performance are cpu and gpu. anything else gives negligible performance boosts. i don't know how well your specific 7870 will overclock, but you will get a good 10-15% more performance out of it if temps are alright.

the only thing to be sure of is that you get an appropriate motherboard for overclocking and a good enough psu. the hard drives don't affect fps, but rather load times. so say if you had an ssd, you would experience little to no load times in games like skyrim
