to the point.....
i got new R9 290 from MSI,that is Gaming 4G with Advanced TwinFrozr cooler.
installed on my system,i tried this driver "AMD_Catalyst_14.3_Beta_V1.0_Windows_B22_March12" i download it from Guru3D.
at first no problem, then tried Unigine Valley, got low score as low as 500 then 1380, that is so low and with some lag in benchmarking too.
tried gaming Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, Battlefield 3, Metro Last Light, very stable but the frame not as high as i saw in other review. but it slightly faster than my Sapphire 7970 Vapor-X (already sold).
my 290 topped out 88'C on Metro Last Light with some fluctuating Core Clock. my CPU reach 71'C (FX-8350 not overclocked)
i haven't overclock yet with 14.3 BETA
then i decide not to do gaming for a while, because CPU temp are hot due to R9 290 under it, usually my CPU topped out at 55'C.
so i just do browsing using both chrome and firefox while listening some music using Windows Media Player (some are music video and some are mp3) then it suddenly freeze and got BSOD.
after goes into windows again, i do the same thing and got BSOD.
tried gaming for 2 hour, i got no BSOD at all just lag, sometime the core clock drop to 687Mhz then up again to 977Mhz.
tired of this, looking around the web, got solution to use "13-12_win7_win8_64_dd_ccc_whql" Driver from Guru3D also.
i remove previous driver using Display Driver Uninstaller from Guru3D.
because i believe it stable driver from what i know after looking around, i overclock the card using MSI Afterburner.
i got score 2393 with 105fps and max temp of 84'C with 100% fan speed.
tried gaming Crysis 3, Far Cry 3, is soooo smooooth with all setting maxed out and 2x msaa (vsync disabled) i got minimum 38fps and max 87fps which is awesome, cleared 3 stage and no problem in system.
check Afterburner and GPU-Z, GPU usage is up and down to 70% - 100% and Core Clock is fluctuating so much. but i got good frame rate.
but still,i was surprised when i browsing using both Chrome and Firefox while listening to music using Windows Media Player, at certain point its always BSOD.
any solutions?
i had this card for about 2 weeks, should i RMA it? or its just driver issue?
while i type this thread,i'm using chrome but not listening to music, just chrome on active along with other background app, no BSOD.
here to be clear.....

========================================
using 14.3 BETA Driver on my R9 290:
- no overclock
- got BSOD at certain point when browsing+listening music using Windows Media Player
- no BSOD if i just watch video normaly (just watch video only,no browsing...etc no)
- and sometime BSOD even in just idle desktop win7
- performance only slight increase from my previous 7970Ghz (1100Mhz Core & 1600Mhz Memory)
- feels laggy
- at certain point while gaming/benchmark both GPU usage and Core Clock are fluctuating a lot and sometime reach 678Mhz then rise again to 977Mhz. the fluctuation on Core Clock are often between 844Mhz-977Mhz
using 13.2 WHQL Driver on my R9 290:
- at first no overclock (doing games and goes smooth)
- now stable overclock at 1055Mhz Core & 1400Mhz Memory with 50% Power limit (core voltage untouched)
- i enable AMD Overdrive on CCC but after that i kept using MSI Afterburner for tweaking
- first time BSOD is after i restart my PC the 2nd time, just when i open Afterburner, it BSOD. but after that not happening again until (so Afterburner not an issue)
- same problem occur like 14.3 BETA, i still got BSOD when browsing+listening music using Windows Media Player
- Very RARE BSOD when just idle desktop win7, even while listening to music too, but it does BSOD but not so often like 14.3 BETA
- no BSOD if i just watch video normaly, like watching anime or bluray movies, normal
- in gaming i got HUGE improvement using this 13.2 WHQL
- at certain point while gaming/benchmark GPU usage sometime fluctuate a lot but game keep stable only drop a little then rise again. Core Clock is very stable now, 980-1055Mhz but when it fluctuate, Core Clock drop to 400Mhz then jump to 1055Mhz, usually Core Clock drop only to 680Mhz and 765Mhz then rise again to its normal 1055Mhz Core
the Blue Screen code is always:
0xa0000001 (0x0000000000000005, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000)
what is the problem exactly? i'm frustated, so i avoid playing music while browsing but still listening some music when i just want to listen on it using Windows Media Player, until now still no BSOD.
(i'm afraid if i do browsing+music = BSOD and desktop win7+music = BSOD)
