I have an MSI laptop, and up until recently I'd been using factory reset to start everything over when I wanted to wipe it clean. This time though, I want to reformat my drive (which I have replaced with a 240gb ssd), split it into two 120gb partitions, and load Win7 on one and Ubuntu on the other.

However, I recently did something similar to this with my desktop computer, and I ran into an issue. Windows 7 couldn't recognize my Wifi adapter, so after I had used SlimDrivers to update as much as I could I discovered I had no way to get those drivers going. I ended up going into my newegg purchase history from two years ago to get the exact model.

I'm afraid that if the same thing happens with my laptop, I'll be doomed. What can I do about it?

probably you do have virus if the Windows didn't recognize adapter you should run antivirus program or do fresh Windows Install.

BelArc Advisor, which will list all of your hardware.
Go to the manufacturers website(s), and download the relevant ones.
Put on a USB or DVD.

I think this problem should be taken up with a technician
