hello all, i have an hp pavillion a6234x desktop that i have done a few changes to trying to make an issue i have, go away. i have swapped the 400gb hard drive with a 1tb, added an nvidia graphics card, swapped the e4500 cpu with a e6700 core2 duo. now i have a q6700 core2 quad that i have tried swapping and the system wont boot up. i have the p5lp-le leonite2-gl8e board that it came with running right now with the e6700 cpu but the q6700 quad does nothing. i am assuming this board and cpu dont mate well. any suggestions on a board that will mate well with this cpu. 775 socket, ddr2 or ddr3, i have ddr2 ram strips, 2 of them 2gb each 800mhz. the problem i am trying to get rid of is when itunes is running in the back ground on my desktop at work using google chrome, when i open a article or an ebay page while itunes is playing, the music sounds like its skipping. ( i know it's not skipping but that is what it sounds like ). annoying. i am not a computer person by any means both in the understanding of what the hardware is doing as well as the operation of windows. btw i did install fresh windows 7 64bit proffessional. however i am learning. i like to tinker and i am of limited funds. i know for 3 to 4 hundred i could have replaced the mobo/cpu/ram for something much newer but limited funds. the tower was cheap from a friend and the hardware swaps were very little money. the windows 7 cost the most but i figured i could use that in any computer for years to come. so i have seen the asrock g31m-gs r2.0 on newegg for 69 bucks or MSI G41M-P33 Combo for 75 on ebay or an intel dg45id. any thoughts?

I would imagine your problem with the Q6700 is that it is not recognized by the MB BIOS. The Q6700 came out about a year later than the E6700 and no doubt needs a BIOS update for it to be recognized. With retail motherboards this usually isn't an issue. The MB manufacturer maintains BIOS updates for quite some time. However, with a proprietary board like comes with the Pavilion, HP isn't as good at maintaining BIOS updates for very long... if at all.

If HP support is no help in obtaining a BIOS update and/or if you do not feel up to doing such a thing, you may be stuck with replacing the MB if you want to use the quad core. The Asrock board you mention supports the Q6700: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/G31M-GS%20R2.0/?cat=CPU...
