Hi guys,
I'm getting back into the world of self builds, and as such this is my first ever post at tom's hardware. Hopefully I can stay and help others after a little more experience! Anyway, I have just finished my first personal build, since I only recently really had the money to do so and there seem to be a few teething problems. I'll keep it short.

My build:

CPU: Intel Core i7-4770K (currently at stock)
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD4H
Memory: G.Skill Trident X Series 16GB (2 x 8GB)
Storage: Samsung 840 EVO 250GB SSD
Video Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 780 Ti (Superclocked with ACX cooler)
Power Supply: Corsair RM 750W

Well, I was originally running this set up with no graphics card for about a month and it was stress testing ok, I didn't do any particularly long stresses, but I was at least getting through a few hours of prime95 and intel burn with no hitches. I have just got the stage where i want to properly stress test it, but when running intel burn test, the screen flickers and I get the classic "video driver has stopped responding and has successfully recovered", which I know can be caused buy a number of things, not only the graphics card. It does this in succession, sometimes with only 10 seconds break before the next. I have also gotten three blue screens from IBT (with graphics card in), the first minidump pointed to the graphics driver and the second two to 'ntoskrnl.exe'. Which means I may have two points of instability in my system right?

The driver not responding and recovering ONLY seems to happen during IBT, which is what strikes me as odd, since the GPU is not under any stress. I can get through games without it crashing on me... I feel like it could be a PSU problem? The graphics card cannot get enough stable power to power itself when the CPU is under so much stress?

If anyone has any ideas on both the graphics crash and the ntoskrnl.exe, it would be greatly appreciated. I have clean installed the graphics drivers to no avail. The 'ntoskernl.exe' is to do with memory allocation as far as I can tell and I am unsure of how to diagnose my SSD. The samsung software for the SSD stated that the drive is ok, but there is no in depth diagnostic that I can find. I am also running mem test right now, for the ram, for a little more insight.

Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Harry

I feel like it might be bad to forget it. I was planning on overclocking soon, but I don't want to risk it on a potentially unstable machine. If it were a problem with IBT I feel a google search would reveal others with the same problem, but no such instances exist.

Yeah, these haswells are pretty hot. I seem to have a particularly warm one. I chacked to see if there was a newer version of IBT, but I am running the most recent. I didnt bother redownloading it since it is not an installed program, simply a stand alone .exe. I just used it again and my temps were reaching 72! I looked at the cpu voltage and it was at 1.22. All cores were running at 3.9 also, which is not meant to happen at stock. I'm going to have a quick look in BIOS. Something very odd is happening!

ok, I honest to god have no idea what is going on. A whole new kettle of fish has opened up. So for some reason, the CPU is running at a solid 3.85 ghz on all cores with a solid 1.15 volts, even on idle. Whereas idle, up until now, has been below 1ghz with a voltage of around 0.7v. The BIOS suggests it should not be behaving in this way. I have reflashed to the newest BIOS version, but it is still happening.

I'm going to pick this up in the morning.

Yeah, I know. but it shouldn't be doing it on all cores. 3.7 is the 4 core turbo. Also, I caught it getting to a voltage of 1.23. Is this a problem with the board or the chip's vrm?
