Additional Comments:
Is a 500 watt PSU sufficient or way overboard for this build? I have an Aspire 450 watt PSU I can use instead to save money.

Do I need to buy a CPU cooler to replace the stock?

Are the fans in the case sufficient enough to cool the entire system or do I need more?

For about $10 more upgrade the CPU to the fx6300. Yes I would recommend an aftermarket cooler for it.
Change ram to 1866 speed. These are $5 more http://pcpartpicker.com/part/kingston-memory-khx18c10k28

Aspire is not a well regarded PSU supplier. The 450w rating might very well be peak power and its continuous power could be 300w or less. Grab the model# off it and google for reviews of it.
