Has my overclock attempt broken something

I recently upgraded my rig with an ssd and a cm hyper 212 evo and attempted to overclock my cpu but nothing would stay stable even 4.2GHz @ 1.45v wasn't stable! I reset everything to default and manually set ram to 1600MHz.

From the start of my build I had a strange issue with my display in that randomly the screen would go black as if no signal was getting through and then come back on with what it was showing before (very annoying when I'm trying to play tomb raider or watch formula 1) but after my failed attempt at overclocking its happening more and more often. The screen has even gone black like this and then gone red and buzzed causing me to shut it down through the power button.

I currently use HDMI connected to my Logik L24FE12A tv as I don't have the money to afford any monitors at this time, windows 8.1 64 bit is installed on a Samsung 250gb ssd.

So has my overclock caused an issue with my components

Solution
I'm pretty new on Windows 8 but I do think a red screen is GPU driver crashing, and I don't think it is related to you tweaking around with your CPU. You only put on a mild overclock, and that PSU and mobo should handle more than that. What I would do is some separate stress tests to identify exactly what is crapping out. Run a 3d stress test like kombustor and see what happens. If that runs fine after about 30 minutes then run a CPU/RAM test like prime95 or IBT. It could be your PSU is giving out, or it could be something wrong with your GPU hardware, or it may be something as simple as changing the display cord or updating drivers. Yeah it could be a lot of things, but try some 3d testing first to see what happens.

That sounds fantastic! Clear your CMOS and start from scratch. What components are in this rig, CPU, mobo, PSU, RAM, GPU?

Update: after plugging in a vga cable and a dvi adaptor there doesn't seem to be any of the screen blackness thingy. Not sure about the lockups yet as the screen is yellow due to the adaptor
