Hi. I own an optiplex 9010 with an i5 3470 3.2 ghz processor and 4gb ram. I also have an old HD 5450. So im planning to buy a ps4 but i also want to sell this and from the money....build a gaming pc. This should sell for 350$-450$ something like that. I want to do some video editing, play some pc exclusives like minecraft. I have got a few preferences. FX 6300 for cpu and and r7 265x for GPU. maybe the budget can stretch a little more. I dont need OS or monitor . Recommend a cheap gaming keyboard and mouse but not in the build price.
-----------------
i would like to buy my parts from Amazon but only those which are global shipping eligible. And because amazon doesnt ship mother boards internationally.........i would buy it from this site : gear-up.me

Solution

Honestly man, you're not going to get anywhere close to the performance you have RIGHT NOW with $400. If you want good advice, you need to be receptive to said advice or you're wasting everyone's time. I think your best bet, it is to just get a new motherboard, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813157293, and new graphics card, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814131571. Throw in some extra RAM (preferably the same make and model you currently have) and you're set. Anything else you do will cause less performance and spending unnecessary money. You aren't going to get a step up from selling your current rig and replacing it with $400.

Do yourself a favor. Sell the 5450 on ebay or craigslist. Grab a new video card, I'd recommend dropping in a r9 270x or gtx 760, and game away.

You're not going to get a huge performance increase from your current system by building completely new. Your current processor is better: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-3470-vs-AMD-FX-6300

I'd recommend a Microsoft Sidewinder x4 keyboard http://www.amazon.com/Microsoft-JQD-00001-SideWinder-X4-Keyboard/dp/B002ZV51DI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1397532773&sr=8-1&keywords=sidewinder
and a Razr or Steelseries mouse. http://www.amazon.com/Razer-DeathAdder-Ergonomic-Gaming-Mouse/dp/B00AAS888S/ref=sr_1_6?ie=UTF8&qid=1397532799&sr=8-6&keywords=gaming+mouse

The thing is if i salvage my processor and stuff the rest of the parts wont sell because they are just crap. If someone buys them, the money will be less. I just want a PC build. I also want to overclock.... So just give me a pc build .

He'll have a hard time overclocking on an Extreme 3.

The only changes I would make is to get an XFX 550W PSU, get an Extreme 4, and get the Corsair 200r

Honestly if you already own a Ivy Bridge i5, you should be set. You can allocate funds elsewhere. You wont be able to overclock it; honestly I own a 2500K and have been running it stock for the past year. You probably wont need to overclock until its time for a new computer anyway lol.

You can even get a new motherboard for that i5 as well.

If you dont go for a new processor and use your old one, you can do something like this:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant / Benchmarks

CPU: Intel Core i5-3470 3.2GHz Quad-Core Processor (Purchased For $0.00)

This model has a faster graphics card. Heck, if you dont need a storage drive because your old one had one (or an optical drive) you can save money there and might be able to even fit a 780 or a R9 290 in there.

This will get more done than an overclocked computer as above will.

EDIT: Voila! A R9 290:

This way you can have the best of both for gaming. An insanely fast graphics card and a top-of-the-line Intel CPU.

Also, if you are going to do either of these I would suggest a new CPU cooler from the Dell one. Historically Dell CPU coolers are made to fit Dell boards. Something cheap would do like this:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103099

This cooler is actually highly praised.

Can you tell us what form factor you have of your Dell? Do you have the big one or the smaller ones? It kind of decides whether you can use your optical or not. Also if you have the regular sized computer you can even re-use the motherboard.
