I tried 3 different versions, wasted hours on this... can't install windows 7 !!!!! what the heck is going on with this POS motherboard ???

Gigabyte j1800n-d2h
Memory : http://www.ebay.com/itm/151246681299?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649

First try with with Windows 7 64bits

Result : BIOS detect it, boots into setup but it freezes as soon as the "starting windows" screen comes up (before the install). A big red bar appears on the top of the screen and then the computer locks up

2nd try with Windows 7 32bits ultimate SP1

Result : BIOS doesn't even detect my drive and it automatically boots into EFI Shell then gets stuck here. No way to boot the install CD.

3rd try with Windows 7 32bits with an USB Key

Result : USB Key is detected, i can set the bios to boot onto the USB Key but it doesn't work, it just gets me back to BIOS without starting Windows Setup (i built the USB Key using Microsoft Win7 bootable USB creator)

4th try with Windows 7 32bits (different version)

result: same thing

I'M DESPERATE !!!!! In 10+ years i never had so much trouble just to install stupid Windows. I HATE GIGABYTE.

According to Gigabyte, i am supposed to upgrade the BIOS to support Win7 64bits, but how the heck can i update the BIOS if i can't even get into windows and this POS board can't upgrade it through the bios (this motherboard doesnt have Q-Flash)

- How can i tell if it is a problem with my memory ? I bought it off ebay and i'm not even sure if it is compatible. Would i be able to get into BIOS and see the begining of win7 install screen if my memory wasn't compatible) ?
- Is there a way to install windows through EFI Shell ? Never used that before.

More tries:

- Tried another ISO of Windows7 64bits : same problem, red bar at top of screen then freezes here

- Tried Windows 8.0 : doesn't detect the dvd drive at all, can't boot

- Tried booting Windows 7 64 bits from EFI using these commands:
Shell> Fs0:
fs0:> \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI
Same problem, red bar on top then freeze.

Seriously, i'm desperate. What the hell is wrong with this computer ?

:hello:

Kindly I ask your attention.

What kind of HDD/SSD did you installed (this in matter of size)?

About the memory:

Memory
1.2 x DDR3/-L SO-DIMM sockets supporting up to 8 GB of system memory
* If only one DDR3/-L memory module is to be installed, be sure to install it in the SODIMM_1 socket.
2.Dual channel memory architecture
3.Support for DDR3/-L 1333 MHz memory modules
4.Support for non-ECC memory modules

Well, according to the info an Ebay, it should fit.

It's in German:
http://forum.ubuntuusers.de/topic/gigabyte-j1800n-d2h-bios-update/

Translated as good as it can get:

*
You mean: http://download.gigabyte.us/FileList/BIOS/mb_bios_ga-j1800n-d2h_f3.zip

In the manual, based on F2, S. 22, you can see how to set the storage devices. CSM has to be enabled. Maybe that's the what is not working.

GA-J1800N-D2H rev1.0, How to reflash motherboard BIOS:

http://www.gigabyte.com/webpage/20/HowToReflashBIOS.html

*
Do you have an ODD, than you could try next: BIOS updates and Linux (and other operation systems)

http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/software-os/w/linux/bios-updates-and-linux-and-other-operation-systems.aspx

Ofcourse, when the Main Board can boot with UEFI F2.

*
Download a 90 days trail of Windows 8.1 x64 and install it.
Now download the Q-Flash tool for the Mainboard, install it with compatiblemode.
I this artikel, it flashes in DOSMode or something.
Install with F2 and try to Flash with F3.

*
Windows 8 isn't the best way to do it. According to Gigabyte, you can only flash the Mainboard by USBDOS.

Here some information links (you could try it in your language, so instead of .de, use your own .??):

http://www.chip.de/downloads/HP-USB-Disk-Storage-Format-Tool_23418669.html
http://www.chip.de/downloads/USB-DOS_36233249.html

It worked, now lets see if the system boots better this time.

Hopefully I let you known enough, that you will find the answers you seek! :)

Good luck and have fun doing it! :)

Best Regards,

You wrote, "what the heck is going on with this POS motherboard ???"

The GA-J1800N-D2H (rev. 1.0) is fairly new Intel Celeron J1800 System-on-a-Chip motherboard. It seems like user error to me. The user doesn't know how to load the SATA driver to the Windows installation.

Well I did two things that helped with this issue.

1. Forced onboard GPU memory allocation to max (512mb)

2. Found a setting for what OS I was using and changed it from Windows 8 to Windows 7.

This was on the ASUS version of the board J1800I-A. I'm guessing the second change was the one that did it but I don't have any more time to waste on this annoying issue!
