Specifying which NIC software uses

Hi Everyone, So my roommate (uses Sony VAIO running Windows 7) uses a VPN software that creates a virtual port on his machine which it then controls to specify which VPN to access. Works great, but now one program (PlayOn) is having an issue where it accesses the LAN of the VPN instead of our LAN. Since the VPN is being handled as 1 NIC and the actual LAN as another, I know I could adjust the metric and make traffic go to the correct NIC, but that would effect all traffic. Is there a way to do this with just PlayOn?

EDIT: More detail: The PlayOn doesn't establish a local LAN address at all, so not only can it not get the the internet no local clients can access it.

Not the case with this one(I do it on the same service with a program or two), as stated it works by placing their NIC on higher priority. Some programs can bypass by letting you select the real NIC vs. the Virtual NIC, but PlayOn doesn't offer this which brings me to trying to do it on the OS level instead.
