i've got a custom built gaming pc and the motherboard audio line out just outputs weird static that is affected by what the computer is doing and the microphone jack doesn't work. I've tried deleting all of my realtek audio drives and reinstalling them multiple times but i'm starting to think its related to the leds in the front panel of my cooler master k380 case, i replaced them with green LED's, they worked perfectly until i removed the front panel to remove some dust build up. ever since then i haven't been able to get them working again and the fan in the front of the case stopped working until i unplugged it from the case fan power thing and into a molex from the psu. Any help like new ideas of things to try would be greatly appreciated

The sound issue seems to be related to the on-board audio chip. That alone would warrant a return to seller.

I presume you are referring to the water pump part of the cooler when you say you heard crunching. That along with the cooler mounting being loose would indicate to me the the seller didn't offer a very good product. If still under warranty, I'd return the whole thing, yes.

it's not new, sorry i should have mentioned i've had it for almost a year and only just started playing around with it.

From your description, it sounds like the electronic noise may be due to...
1) interference from some device
2) mis-wiring of the HD audio cable from the front panel (be sure you're not using the AC'97 connecter by mistake.)

To help determine the cause, you could either...

disconnect all the front panel wiring except the power button.

or

take the MB out of the case and set it on an insulated surface. Connect just the CPU/cooler, RAM, PSU, gfx card, monitor, KB, Mouse, and speakers (or headphone) to the rear jack. Start the system by either shorting the 2 pins that the power button would connect to... or drag the case close enough to use the wires from the start button. Don't connect anything else from the case.

See if the noise is gone and if the mike works. If the problem is still there, I'd have to assume it is a failed sound chip.

i disconnected everything from the front panel and plugged multiple sets of headphones into the mo bo and still had the problem, so now i gotta find the time to set everything up outside the case

the mic still doesn't work. I took everything out of he case and assembled it on my MB box. The static was still there and the microphone still wasn't functional. I should mention that this whole time a cheap USB headset that i have has been working perfectly fine. During this process I noticed that my CPU cooler (Corsair H80i) was a little loose, so i removed it and adjusted the back panel properly and actually pushed the screw holes down so that they are solidly in place. I continued reinstalling the water cooling and once i was done i booted the system again. Now the static is still all i hear through the MB line out, the mic still doesn't work and i have a new problem; the water cooler makes a continuous crunching sound and i'm worried that it could be causing damage. So what can i do about this crunching noise and am i forced to take the system back to the company that built it for me?

yeah, it's coming from the pump. Okay I guess that's the end of it, I'll just take it back like you said. Thanks for your continued help.
