Hello,

I have been watching the prices on these cards and it looks like there a good deals on both at NewEgg. The MSI 290 is $419.99 after $20.00 rebate and the EVGA Classified is $509.00 after a rebate.

I game at 1080P and know that both will be overkill, but will eventually upgrade to a 1440p monitor. Games include ESO, WoT, BF4 and Titanfall. It seems like the 290s perform better at higher resolutions, but you read a lot of negative reviews on AMD cards. Terrible drivers, heat issues, less reliable etc...

The 290 seems like a fantastic deal and the performance increase, if any, with the 780 may not be worth the extra $90.00, What are your thoughts and opinions on these cards? Please provide pros and cons for each. I know the classy is highly regarded, the MSI card is the less known for me personally so feedback on their products, reliability, services, etc.. would be greatly appreciated.

well the 780 classified is the highest end 2nd tier card out there and will eat up any other 290/780 easily and will pass up tier 1 cards as well. but you are also paying for it. the 290 does have a good price to performance ratio. it really depends on what you are using the card for. if your not interested in high overclocks and your just gaming on a 1080p then get whatever is cheapest from a reputable company like evga, sapphire, msi, gigabye, or asus. but even out the box all gk110/hawaii chips offer exceptional 1440p performance.

the classified is designed for users who want to flash the bios and overclock like crazy, many opting for an ekwb water block. if your not comfortable doing these things then it may not be for you.

Hey dude , I would totally go with the 780 as it's more sufficient and more powerful than the r9 290x. The 780 will last you much longer and as you know nvidia is the more worthy one. Nvidia focuses more on gaming than amd and on the plus side nvidia has a lot of awesome features .hope this information helps

Thank you all for the responses. The classified just jumped back up to $579.00 so I should have jumped on it. I will hold off for now and go with the best price/performance I can find. A $100.00 plus premium for the classy just isn't worth it for me personally, but if it drops again I will jump on it or get a R9 290 if the price is right. Will be traveling for a week soon so will see where things sit in 10 days!

I have been following that one as well. Down to $479 and glad to see the AMD prices coming back down to earth and closer to their MSRP. Long time Nvidia user, but they seem to be getting a bit out of hand with their pricing so am shopping around for the first time. Now if only AMD would be more competitive with Intel like when they first launched the Athlon X2 :)
