Hi guys,

I'm searching for a budget-ssd w/ a capacity of around 240/256GB. I've read that the crucial m500 is a good low-budget option. Does anyone know a better(cheaper)alternative? I've found a crucial m500 240GB for €95 ($130). I know they are cheaper in the US but unfortunately I live in the EU..

Besides that, my PC says my HDD is SATAII, is it possible to just plug in a SATAIII SSD and use the HDD as an external drive with a SATA/USB cable?
Thanks for the help.

sata 3 ssd-s are backwards compatible with the sata 2 interface so no problems there, if it's a laptop yes, the drive you can use as external in an enclosure or with a cable. if it's a desktop though the desktop drives aren't built to resist shocks so i wouldn't recommend you do this. if it's a desktop you can just keep them both inside the pc. the space for the ssd shouldn't be an issue it's small enough.

Could you please post a link to one or two of your favorite online vendors? I'd like to see what is available and the prices before making a recommendation.

You mentioned your hard disk drive is SATA 2. What is the brand and model number of your motherboard?
