My 5-yr old laptop just has USB ports (no HDMI).
My new(er) Samsung TV has a USB and a USB(HDD) port (in addition to HDMI's). Can I use a USB cable to stream Netflix from my laptop to TV? If so - to which USB port on the TV?
Thanks

Short answer: NO. There is no such standard.

Your laptop most probably has VGA port, and most new TVs have this one as well, so you would just need a long VGA-VGA cable.

But - If you're in USA, get $35 ChromeCast, or Roku, or Amazon, or....

Did a little checking - would this work?: Get a usb to hdmi converter-thingy, with the usb end plugged into my laptop; then run a hdmi cable from the other (hdmi) end of the converter-thingy into my TV. Comments?

Just a straight through patch cable for sound will do for many TVs. The type you would use to patch from your phone or iPod to your car AUX jack. Check the back to see what inputs you have.

BTW, does you TV have a Netflix streaming app built in?
