We've had an ongoing issue for a while now and I've had no luck finding an answer thus far.

We have an issue where site to site VPNs with our clients are dropping connection about every 15 minutes.

I also noticed when I RDP into our office network from home it also drops every 15 minutes or so. Though I hear our office VPNs do not suffer that issue.

We use a NetGear FVS318v3 firewall, if knowing any of the settings on it will help please let me know.

Our ISP is Comcast.

Any help is appreciated.

Check your router settings for how often your IP addresses renew their lease. Could be on a fifteen minute cycle, causing the "breakage" in the VPN link to occur.

COLGeek:

The default lease time is 86400 seconds, or 24 hours.

you have to define what disconnect? just rdp? site to site vpn? any other services?
it is possible the terminal server drops connections after 15 minutes, then it is terminal server settings.
if the site to site vpn drops you have to dig into both firewall logs and try figure it out.
check TTL on both firewalls or KEEP ALIVE settings for the VPN connections.

It's RDP that's disconnecting.

When employees RDP into our terminal server they get disconnected every 10 minutes or so.

But we also lose connection when RDPing into client systems over site to site VPNs. The VPN stays connected (I think) but the RDP goes down every 10 or 15 minutes. This is regardless of which machine we run the VPN from.

We use cisco anyconnect secure mobility client for most VPNs, or use a client's own secure site.

In every case the RDP still times out.

Have a look at the terminal server settings.
Also check for any changes happen lately, updates to server , security software , group policy.

I'm looking and I don't see anything out of the ordinary. I don't see any setting set to auto disconnect after 10-15 minutes.

This issue has been going on for quite some time so there have been plenty of changes, I wouldn't even know where to begin to look to see if any of those changes might be affecting it.

We used to use a T1 line and didn't have this problem. Ever since we changed to Comcast we've had this issue. We've called them and asked them to come troubleshoot the issue but that hasn't fixed anything.

EDIT: I just looked at the group policy settings for the remote desktop session limit settings. It was all set to not configured, which is supposed to mean that users never get disconnected. I went ahead and changed that to enabled and set it to never disconnect, but I don't imagine that will make any difference.

So the other day, I was doing a Citrix go to meeting with a co-worker while I was also connected to a site to site VPN with one of our clients and using an RDP connection to one of their servers. This co-worker was connected to one of our office servers through RDP. All 3 of them disconnected at the exact same time.
