New Keyboard, To mechanical or not!

So, I currently have a Logitech G110, that i love, but the LEDs have recently or not so recently, stopped working, and it keeps popping up "USB DEVICE NO RECOGNIZED" on my screen every couple seconds, and every so often the keyboard will stop working. This is all due to a electronics terrorizing 2 year old and so now I need a new keyboard...

Problem is, I'd love a mechanical keyboard, but the computer is in a room where it would drive my other half absolutely crazy with the clickity-click-click.

So question is, what is every ones opinion on a good (WIRED!) gaming keyboard, with LED back lighting. Volume control, extra keys, and headphone/usb jacks on it would be nice, but not 100% necessary.

Also, I don't want to hear "RAZOR4LYFE" like so many of my friends seem to be unable to get over.

Budget isn't an issue either, and I've already glanced at the Logitech G19s and G510s, just not sure what I want, especially since I'd like a quiet mechanical if they exist.

How about the G710+ and a nice pair of closed headphones for the lady ;)
Though if the 110 is already too loud then the 710+ won't hurt, in for a penny in for a pound.

Unfortunately it would seem that the G710+ is the quietest mech keyboard available - and it is a lot quieter than my mechanical and others without dampening. And I honestly cannot recommend membrane keyboards after using mechanical. Sorry.

Personally, I use a Corsair K70, but it doesn't really fit the bill of exactly what you're looking for. It's more of a simple keyboard. But one thing I will say is if you are looking into mechanical, consider Cherry MX Reds. They're relatively quiet (a whole lot quieter than the blues), as long as you're not playing while everyone else is sleeping and there's some background noise for the other people in your room, then the noise shouldn't be an issue.

But regardless, best of luck in searching for a keyboard, and continue to stay away from Razer products :)

The logitech g710+ is a brown switch mechanical keyboard that has dampening rings underneath the keycaps to reduce noise. Also has a white backlight and built in volume control and USB ports.

It is a little pricey though, but it is a top end keyboard.

Corsair K95, it is great as I have one, but is not going to lie, quite loud.

Other than this, I have no recommendations but I can provide some advice.
Go with Cherry MX Brown switches, they are as from what I'm aware of the more quite ones.
or maybe it's the Blues.

I'm not sure, just do a little bit of research and make sure to put that into your purchase.

Good luck!

If budget is not an issue, the quietest possible "mechanical" switch would be electrostatic capacitive switches (Topre). They are a bit more expensive than a traditional cherry mx keyboards, but save your neighbors' ears in the room with you. Coolermaster is releasing a keyboard with these very switches in early Q3, here is a video :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEoCWokFzJo

Or if you want a keyboard with these switches today, then buy a Realforce or Leopold. -

edit* found this video to hear the sound of the logitech and it appears to sound just as loud as any ordinary cherry mx keyboard, and even has dampener rings. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgl-W9KnlrY
