I am looking into building a home server pc to store all my movies and backup all my pc's in my house. My budget is about 700$ and I already have a case that will support any atx motherboard. I also have one 2tb hdd for the system but am looking to get more storage. I do not want a dedicated gpu in my system I am looking for an integrated solution to also save money. I may be using this to host a minecraft server with up to 5 people on it so I don't want extremely low end parts. Thanks for your help it is appreciated!

Solution
Something like a bottom end i5, h18 or b85 motherboard, and 8gb RAM would be WAY more than he could ever use. I run a 20 person MC server on an old i5 650 and 6gb RAM and even with 20 people online, the CPU is never more than 50% load.

Hi, being someone who has hosted servers themselves, this is what I recommend:

The Xeon processor is perfect for server hosting, if you would like to spend slightly more you could get a slightly better one. 16GB ram is good for a server, however I would recommend you spend a little more for 32GB. The water cooler is to keep the processor cool and stable. The hard drive is for backing up your files and the ssd if for running mine craft and hosting your server, as it will have very fast upload times. I have left the wired adapter up to you, choose yours so you can wire it up to your network for very fast speeds for your server. Good luck!

This is REALLY overkill for just a file server/ 5 person minecraft server.

Tiny voices are you following me around and hating?! Haha only joking! Yeah it is completely overkill but I was just beefing out his budget, and if he wanted to expand it would be easily possible. Anyway maybe you could take care of the budget version of mine?
