I did a little bit of research for you since I forgot a lot about the am2+ chips but I found that processor is on the support list here http://www.cpu-upgrade.com/mb-Gigabyte/GA-M61SME-S2L(rev._2.0).html but it does require a update to bios version F5J

I contacted motherboard manufactures over the phone before to check on processor support for a motherboard. generally they will be able to give you the most detailed, or straight forward answer. The cpu-upgrade list is based on the theory that it might work, so it isn't always 100% accurate. So I would give gigabyte a call and they should give you a straight forward answer.
