I've used this backup drive for 3 weeks. Sure enough, after I've stored all sorts of sensitive data on the drive, it won't recognize by my fairly new Panasonic Windows 8 laptop. I never dropped the drive, and it's practically new.
When I plug it into the USB port, the light flashes to indicate it's on / activity. It runs, I can hear the motor going inside backup drive; quiet.. but running. It won't recognize as it did before, in the file explorer nor will it prompt me for action of what to do when I plug it in (standard Windows 8 message when plugging anything into the USB port).
After about 10 seconds, it makes a "beep" sound.
I've tried external recovery softward like Recuva and a couple others. No luck.
I've tried the WD utlity tools, device manager (deleting softward, resinstalling profile, etc). I'm at my end here... as tech support tells me to format it or send it back to be replaced... OR send it to an external place to charge hundreds of dollars to recover data on a $150 backup drive!!
Am I missing something here? Any ideas? Please help!!!
