PSU Selection. Yes, another one

I know, another "what PSU should I get" thread. I've purchased everything else and awaiting last 2 items from newegg. Should be here today or tomorrow. Read tons of other threads on PSUs.

But when it comes to the PSU, I'm flip flopping like a politician. If I've input my specs correctly on the PSU calculators, OC'd, I'm sitting at 480w. So minimum 40 on 12v rail, yes?

4670k
MSI 650 ti Boost
ASRock Z87 Extreme 4
2X4GB G.Skill
MC 212 Evo cooler
240GB SSD
WD Black 500GB HDD

These are the 2 that are in my cart:
XFX TS Series XFX TS 550W - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
SeaSonic S12II 620 Bronze - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151096

Also looked at the Seasonic 520, same model as above, and the EVGA 600B.

There is a slight possibility I may SLI in the future if I run across a deal on my current card somewhere. Chances are probably becoming more slim as time goes by that I can find one.

As always, thanks in advance!

Seasonic made XFX so they are both the same quality except xfx is cheaper. ok lets calculate no not websites they are not true. HUMAN calculation.

the gtx 650ti boosts max power is 134watts.

the 4670k's max power is 68watts.

TOTAL 202watts/16amps.

Heck sli gtx 770's at load is 460watts.

The XFX one is made by Seasonic so technically they're both Seasonic. I agree on the wattage part though, go with Seasonic.

For PSU's----------for ANY system, the best advice is to get the most wattage within your budget as possible. While a 480w may be adequate, I'm using an 850w-------which lets me continue to grow my system without worrying about a PSU.
(And I'm only using ~520w with everything).

I go so long between upgrades, its safer to replace the PSU when I do. I'd rather keep my TX750, but I think its going bad after 5 years. Starting to get random reboots.

So I'm getting Seasonic either way. Think I knew that already in my brain somewhere. There is such a thing as OVER reading and researching!

I should be fine with the Seasonic 520 then and save $10? I think its 40 amps vs 48 on the 620.

I was just going to post that :)

The one AMDThunder listed originally is awfully expensive for some reason, even though it's the same PSU.

I get free 2 day shipping at newegg. Only a $4 difference and I get it in 2 days instead of a week.

Well that explains it then :D

Lol, its the same price as the Seasonic 620. So in that case, they're both made by Seasonic, and the same price.
The Seasonic 520 saved $10. Not too worried about the 10 bucks if its worth it spend it.

If XFX 550 = Seasonic 520, I'll get the Seasonic 520.

If the Seasonic 620 is better than both and not overkill for my parts, I'll spend the extra 10 if its necessary.

Haswell compatible only means it works with the power saving options of the Haswell CPUs; The Seasnoic will still work, it just won't be able to save as much power.

Good point. I just read up on that. Doesn't mean that it won't work, and that feature can be turned off on the mobo. (Read that bios updates are turning it off by default now.)
BUT, I think I'd rather be safe than sorry.

About the Haswell compatibility:

"Model Type Haswell Compatible Part No.
XFX Pro Series Core Edition Full Wired PSUs
PRO650W 80 Plus Bronze Yes P1-650S-NLB9
PRO750W 80 Plus Bronze Yes P1-750S-NLB9
PRO850W 80 Plus Bronze Yes P1-850S-NLB9
XFX Pro Series XXX Edition Semi-Modular PSUs
PRO650W 80 Plus Bronze Yes P1-650X-XXB9
PRO750W 80 Plus Bronze Yes P1-750X-XXB9
PRO750W 80 Plus Silver Yes P1-750B-NLG9
PRO850W 80 Plus Bronze Yes P1-850X-XXB9
PRO850W 80 Plus Silver Yes P1-850B-NLG9
XFX Pro Series Black Edition Full Modular PSUs
PRO750W 80 Plus Gold Yes P1-750B-BEFX
PRO850W 80 Plus Gold Yes P1-850B-BEFX
PRO1050W 80 Plus Gold Yes P1-1050-BEFX
PRO1250W 80 Plus Gold Yes P1-1250-BEFX
XFX Pro Series Black Edition Limited Full Modular PSUs
PRO1000W 80 Plus Platinum Yes P1-1000-BELX"

That's from here.

I doesn't seem like the 550W ones support the power saving feature.

Ugh, now my head is starting to hurt. This is part of why I was flip flopping so much. Everything started running together after a while! I'm really not concerned with the power saving BS, and will turn it off if its not already.

Yeah, don't worry about it. The only difference is that with the power saving, your GPU will consume about 0.6 Watts of power while without power saving it will consume about 6W (this is when idling, it does not affect power consumption under load).

You're talking about the XFX Pro Series Core Edition 550W (P1-550S-XXB9). This model definitely isn't Intel Haswell Compatible.

The new XFX TS Series 550W Full Wired Edition (Bronze) - P1-550S-XXB9 does claim Intel Haswell Compatibility.

Haswell compatibility is not about power saving. It is about triggering one of the PSU's protection circuits such that the system won't wake up from C6/C7 sleep state and requires that the PSU's AC power switch having to be cycled to reset the protection circuit before the system is able to power back up.

The protection circuit gets triggered when the PSU becomes unbalanced when the +12V rail is very lightly loaded (i.e. 0.05 Amps using Intel's testing method) and one of the output rails will go outside of ATX12V specifications. This happens with PSUs that use the older group regulated circuit design.

Then how come these two different PSUs have the exact same model number, P1-550S-XXB9?

If you check out the specs from here, you'll notice it's not Haswell compatible.
