celeron g1620 or Athlon 5350?

which processor (the celeron g1620 or athalon 5350) is faster in games and will provide the most performance out of a discrete graphics card? also, if i get the Athlon can i crossfire it with an amd graphics card?

The celeron is faster. You really should be looking at something current gen, and preferably i3 minimum. Even a pentium G would be better, and not much more in cost.

what is the difference between celeron and pentium? I found this comparison between a celeron and pentium of seemingly equivalent specifications and it shows the celeron as being faster. also the i3 is a bit out of my budget. :) http://www.cpu-world.com/Compare/107/Intel_Celeron_Dual-Core_G1620_vs_Intel_Pentium_Dual-Core_G630.html

Honestly the Celeron would be alright for basic gaming. I have an old Celeron G530 and whenever me and my cousin want to play some sort of new game, the G530 (paired with a Radeon HD6670) runs very smooth and cool.

As above, those are last gen parts. If you want to be able to upgrade, then you might want to pick a socket that is upgradeable.
