I currently own a Clevo W110er with an 3rd gen Intel I7m quad core. The system has one stick of crucial 8GB DDR 1600 CL11 memory. I want to at minimum add another stick for dual channel benefits. Is it really worth the money to upgrade to CL9 memory? How much performance increase in gaming can I expect between 16GB DDR3 CL11 vs 16GB DDR3 1600 CL9 SODIMM. I found amazon has a sale on 2x 8GB Crucial Ballistix DDR3 1600 CL9 for $130. I can get another stick of the CL11 variety for around $75 there.

If you know of existing benchmarks or a rational for how much of a percentage increase I might see going from CL11 to CL9? Thank you in advance for any help. I am also glad to provide more info if needed.

He doesn't even come close to RAM saturation on that machine. 8GB to 16GB is likely also a waste of your money.

Think i'm kidding? Open Task Manager, click the performance tab. Now go open all the normal stuff you have open while playing games and go play your most...

if i would upgrade both ram modules i would prefer even higher speeds (if mobo-cpu allows) else stick with 1600 cl11

If you have extra money burining a hole in your pocket, and you want to try to impress people with the specs in your signature... upgrade your ram. Like chris987 said, you won't notice any difference.

Still doing research regarding this and it appears from some benchmarks at another site that the move from cl11 to cl9 when running at the same frequency is minimal. What I would like to know now is it even worth upgrading to 16GB over 8GB now? I am going to keep searching on google, but is there any current game that really requires 16GB. When gaming I usually shut down most everything on the laptop anyway so maybe I should just save the money and put it toward my long overdue HTPC?

no, for gaming 8gb is more than enough for the time being!

Upgrading to 16gb over 8gb, yes, totally worth it. It isn't about any one game/program using all 16gb, it's about having the ability to run multiple programs and processes at the same time. According to my Windows Task Manager, at this moment, just internet, background programs, MSI Afterburner, Speccy and my Corsair Link running... using 3.46gb of RAM. More RAM is one of the best upgrades you can do for your computer, and it's pretty cheap and noticible too.

My money is on, you don't even break the 6GB threshold. I've been gaming on my 6GB DDR3 1600MHz running two monitors, a Ventrillo server with 4-8 people connected at any given time, two browsers and while playing back music on my machine and I can barely break the 5GB mark in BF4 while doing all that.

i am totally agree with Calvin3200 and other who are saying that upgrading ram from 8 To 16Gig is much better experience in multiple tasking because i have installed 4GB of ram with Intel Core i3 and when i use Firefox browser it hardly reach 2.2Gig but when i use chrome browser it crosses over 3.8gig and freezes my computer.

may be you are using a 2133 MHZ ram.

If you are still not agree with me then you should take a look to XBOX 360 which is running on 512MB ram but it doesn't mean that our system can run on a 500MB Ram.

Every Motherboard has their own specs and memory config over clocking so upgrading ram is a safe side which is a good thing for over clockers and gamers.

This is just misinformation, sorry. Thread should be closed.
