I read some threads that said in January that the Windows 8.1 update broke many of the impact/dot-matrix printer drivers. Well, I have a brand new Win 8.1 computer, and I need to be able to use an impact printer with it to print forms with carbon copies.

I don't yet have the impact printer, so the advice I need is where should I buy it, and which one should I buy so that it works well with Windows 8.1? Where do I go from here?

We're using OKI ML280 elite dm printers to print multi part tickets.

They work fine on 64 bit windows 8.1 using either generic/text only or native OKI ML280 drivers.

Couldn't say for any other combination as that's all we use

I saw your response to the question relating to dot matrix printers and that you are on a Win 8 operating system with an Okidata 280 printer. I have an Okidata 320 Turbo and have tried adding the printer as a generic/text only on COM port 4 (com port 3 is for my laser printer). But I get an error message when I try to test print. Is your printer on a com port or printer port. My computer is connected to the printer via a USB cable that is can connected to a 2nd USB cable with a 24 pin? printer end. Any additional info you can supply would be greatly appreciated.
