i have a fan control on my case (ANTEC GX700) it works but one of my fan gets warm so i decided to plug all fans back to the motherboard. is that bad? or should i put it back to the fan control? how do i prevent it from getting warm when using the control fan? will it shorten motherboards life if i plug fans in motherboad?

I HAVE 3 120MM FANS PLUGGED IN TO MOBO. NOT INCLUDING CPU FAN thanks

BOTTOM LINE WHICH IS BETTER? PLUNGED INTO MOBO OR FAN CONTROL ?

THANKS AGAIN!

There should be an option in the BIOS menu [edit] the GX700 has an intigrated fan controller on the case, so the mobo fan control shouldn't bother you.

Typically, a third party fan controller gives you the best range of control possible. However, the fan controller on that case is basically "go fast or go slow" and is really not terribly useful. If your fan is getting hot, I doubt the problem is the controller, more likely it's the fan motor itself. If the same fan is still getting hot after moving it from the fan controller to the m/b controller, then the problem is definitely the fan. The m/b case fan headers are basically on/off switches while the cpu header is a pwm. You may have some range adjustment of the case fans via bios, but you still end up with pretty much the same "range" as your case fan controller.

Just buy a new fan and replace the hot fan. If you really want control of fan speeds, you will need to buy a third party, pwm based, fan contoller unit.

but when i plug in all my fans to mobo its not warm. but when i plug all fans to fan control one gets warmer and i realized the fan is not as fast as plugged into mobo

Either replace that fan or plug that one into mobo, and others into fan control.

so leaving all 4 fans (including cpu fan) is okay right? wont shorten life of any components right? thanks

Should be fine.

If the fan overheats on the controller, but not from the motherboard, the problem is the contoller. If the fan overheats on either the contoller or the m/b, the problem is the fan.

If your controller has discrete connectors (one for each fan), try swapping fan a to controller b. If the controller does not have discrete connectors, swap the hot fan to a different lead. If the same fan heats up, the fan is bad. If the swapped in fan overheats, the problem is the controller.

You won't do any damage to you m/b by hooking up the fans to the case fan headers - that's what they are for.

What you may be seeing with the controller is that the multiple case fans on a single connector string is creating a situation where total amperage may be too high for the line. This would tend to heat up the "weakest" component, but when the component is run "stand alone", the problem is resolved.

Bottom line - if the fans run right and cool from the m/b headers, use them instead of the built in controller. If you really want total fan control (without messing with bios or the m/b), get a third party fan controller. THIS little job from NZXT handles five fans, runs off a touch screen and is inexpensive. Works great!
