Hi folks. I'm starting my first ever build, and a quick question. I installed the cpu and am using the stock fan for now (no OC'ing yet) and I'm wondering if the orientation of the fan is important.

I'll try to make this not confusing but, basically can the stock fans be installed in any orientation over the cpu? So if you're looking down on it, and the back panel ports are to your left (how it would fit in the case), should the intel sticker be parallel with the back of the case or perpendicular. Think of it like turning the cooler like a door knob, am i up a creek if I basically turned it once to the right, so it is parallel to the back panel ports?

I hope this makes sense, and I know how much of a noob I sound like, so any facepalms are totally deserved.

If you're referring to the classic 'orb' style cooler that comes with the i5, it makes zero difference which way you put it. Just orientate it whichever way gives you enough slack on the fan wire to plug it into your motherboard.

Make sure you slip the wires out of the little clips holding the wires or at lease give it some slack. Intel wraps the wires around the fan shroud and they rubbed the fan blades on my last install.

Really? I could of sworn I'd seen them installed with the label (and the wire exit hole) facing multiple different directions (and of course almost all aftermarket coolers can be orientated either way on the recent intel platforms). Strange. Did they change the mounting system when they moved from 1155 to 1150? You can see on this guide to mounting the cooler on the 1155 socket that they mention the orientation doesn't matter.

Either way, I'm sorry if I gave bad advice.

the pins fit, the only reason i didnt want to re orient it after i had already touched the thermal paste to the cpu was bc some came off onto the top of the cpu and i didnt want to kind of have it going two different ways.
