Hey guys,

So I'm going to build my first computer but I'm still in doubt of which CPU to buy and if I should go with 1x8GB of RAM now and add another 1x8GB later or go with a 2x4GB now and stick with it. This rig is meant for gaming mostly, maybe some light editing but nothing too fancy. I don't have much of a budget so I won't add a designated graphics card right now but I'll add it in the summer months.

Right now this is what I have:

CPU: i5 4570 or i5 4670k

MB: Asrock Fatal1ty Killer B85

MEM: 1x8GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL10 (and add an equal one later)
or
- 2x4GB Corsair Vengeance DDR3 1600MHz CL9
- 2x4GB Kingston HyperX Black DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (not sure if it works on the chipset)
- 2x4GB Kingston HyperX Beast DDR3 1600MHz CL9 (not sure if it works on the chipset)
- 2x4GB Gskill Sniper Low Voltage DDR3 1600MHz CL9

PSU: XFX Pro 550W Core Edition

HDD: Seagate Barrucada 1TB

CASE: ZALMAN Z3 Plus

Right now I don't plan on overclocking but maybe sometime later so it would be nice to have that option but it is not mandatory for me.

I'd also like if someone could tell me what a good graphics card is for this system so I can have a clear price goal for my savings :b
I don't live in the US but I can say that I plan on spending about 200-250€ on it I think that the prices pretty much translate to the same here so it would still be about 200-250$ US

Solution
Definitely go with the 4670k, you cant go wrong because it can be overclocked when you feel like doing it in the future.

as for the ram i cannot look further than this one here if it is available to you. If not, then to be honest all of the ones you listed above will do the job correctly, just make sure to choose a RAM that has the lowest CL (9 is great) and a voltage of 1.5 if possible.

G.Skill Ripjaws X Series 8GB (2 x 4GB) DDR3-1600 Memory ($74.98 @ OutletPC)

As for the GPU, its a toss up because people will say AMD is better while others say NVidia is better.

All I can say is that for your price range look into the GTX 760 which in my opinion is the best you can get at that price range (comparing to prices in Germany so up to...

Stick to Asus, EVGA, Gigabyte, and MSI since they offer the better non-reference cards. you could also look into Zotac and Sapphire.

Thanks for the advice. The main reason I didn't put the Ripjaws there was because they're red and I prefer blue and the case already has a blue LED fan so... although I am aware of the MB color, I was just hoping that it wouldn't be as noticeable as the RAM would be if they were red x)
Regarding the GPUs those were exactly the ones I've been looking at.

Thanks again man, I'll wait till tomorrow to see if anybody else says anything but you helped me quite a lot, at least I won't be afraid of choosing either of the options I have in the table :D

After checking if the memories were compatible with the MB I found out that only the Gskill Sniper ones were compatible so, right now, this is what I'm going to go with:

CPU: i5 4670k
MB: Asrock Fatal1ty B85 Killer
MEM: 2x4GB Gskill Sniper Low Voltage DDR3 1600MHz (CL9 - 1.25v)
HDD: 1TB Seagate Barracuda
PSU: XFX Pro 550W Core Edition
CASE: Zalman Z3 Plus

This summer and the following month or 2 after I plan on adding a graphics card (a store here in Portugal is offering a Razer Deathadder 2013 if you buy an Asus GTX760 2GB DirectCU II OC at 240€, which is pretty great, while they're in stock so let's hope that they still are by then) and an SSD, I'm going with the Crucial M500 120GB or the Samsung 840 Evo 120GB - the Samsung seems like a better option :)

Thanks for all the help man, best regards :D

Good stuff, looks good and I like the memory. The Asus GTX760 will be great, and by the time you're going to be purchasing it there may be new cards out so there could be a price drop on that card meaning you could have the possibility of getting an even better card like the GTX 770 or R9 280x. But if not, don't worry about it because the 760 will still be awesome!

Be sure to choose a solution to your question to help out others looking for the same sort of thing in the forum! :)

And good luck!

So today I started thinking: "what would be best? this mb in my rig or a z87 for around 80-100€?" and now I come here once again asking for help.

What would be best, this Asrock b85 Killer or a Z87 board that goes for 80-100€? If you have any sugestions, it would be really great

Good question, the Z87 chipset is better and this motherboard is in your price range, it supports higher memory frequency (up to 2800MHz) and supports SLI and Crossfire. Personally i wouldnt even look at the B85 when comparing to the Z87. This board below will also be way more compatible with the type of RAM you are looking to purchase.

ASRock Z87 Extreme3 ATX LGA1150 Motherboard (€96.71 @ Amazon Deutschland)

Hey, thanks again.

I did some research before you answered and I did find that MB but here it's going for 109,90€

however I checked some more MB and I have a list of 8 MB and I was just hoping you could give them a look and tell me if they're good for the price and which one is the best bang for buck :)

ASROCK Z87 PRO3 (83,90€)

MSI Z87-G41 PC MATE (88,90€)

MSI Z87M-G43 (88,90€)

ASROCK Z87 PRO4 (98,90€)

MSI Z87-G43 (99.30€)

ASROCK Z87 EXTREME3 (109,90€)

ASUS Z87-K (109,90€)

MSI Z87-G55 (114,90€)

I know they are a lot and I'm really appreciative of all the help you've been giving me, since I know little bit but I'm not too knowledgeable in this area and I'm just trying to get the best possible components in my budget

Thats a tough one, but ill put it this way. If youre looking to always have just one GPU then go with the ASROCK Z87 PRO3 because in my opinion its a great board for the price. if youre looking to add a second GPU in the future then go with the ASROCK Z87 EXTREME3. The MSI boards are good if you would be able to get the Gaming versions of them, but i'm sticking to the two boards i suggested. of course you should look into the two and compare them with another board you might like better (MSI gaming boards tend to look nicer but perform very similarly).

I'll research more about the boards thx for the advice :)

The only thing I do like more in the military class MSI boards is the blue and that exactly what I don't like as much in the gaming boards of them is the red scheme, I'm more of a blue fan I guess x)
