I am looking to build a moderate budget computer around the AM3+ socket.

CPU's: 1) FX6300 or 2)FX8320

GPU's: 1) Sapphire r7 265 or 2)Gigabyte r9 270x 3 fan cooler (planning to overclock)

RAM: Unsure, is 4gb enough for games like BF4, or is 8gb required?

Chipset: 1)970 or 2)990fx (both Gigabyte boards)

The dilemma here is that I am on a strict budget. To get the FX8320 CPU, I have to get the r7 265, 4gb RAM, and the 970 chipset. Essentially, I can get only 1 option 2), and 3 option 1)'s. I don't plan on CPU overclocking. I play games such as BF3/4, Gmod, NFS rivals, Just Cause 2, TF2, Planetside, etc. I would preferably like to play at 720p with 50-70 fps, but 1080p would be better. Thanks for anybody who can help.

Solution
1st get the FX 6300 - reason to buy: This chip can handle GTX 760 without an issue with an R9 270x is the right choice for your buck.
2nd get the 970 chipset preferably ASROCK, GIGABYTE, MSI - reason to buy: This chipset support your FX 6300 and its enough for your system on a budget with overclocking capabilities.
3rd get an R9 270x this will not bottleneck your system. :D
4th get an 8GB memory ram (always get a kit 2x 4gb, this will theoretically give the twice the bandwidth than a single DIMM)- yes it is necessary. games now a days are designed for higher capacity memory e.g. call of duty ghost, and also you will not ran out of memory when doing a lot of task.

choosing FX 8350 with an 970 chipset is not advisable since 970 chipset...

If I buy the fx8320, then I can only get the r7 265, or if I get the r9 270x, I can only get the fx6300 (due to budget restrictions). Would you recommend going for the better CPU or CPU?

choosing FX 8350 with an 970 chipset is not advisable since 970 chipset can't draw enough power to unlock the potential of your chip.
combining the following FX 8350 - 970 chipset- 4gb of ram - and R9 265 is not worth your money since entry level card will bottleneck your cpu and your mobo isn't supplying enough power to your CPU and low capacity of RAM will be a problem in a long RUN.

the following i suggest:
CPU: FX6300
MOBO: ASROCK 970 extreme 4 series or any from the above manufacturers
GPU: R9 270x
RAM: G skill ripjaws x kit 2x 4 GB.

i hope this helps.
