I am going to be doing a build with 2 of the new AMD R9 295x2 and use a triple monitor display or switch to a 4k occasionally. Will an OC 4770k work fine or is a 4930k necessary? Thanks

I doubt two extra cores will do you much good in that regard. The 4770K is, albeit debatable, one of the best CPUs currently out. Chances are if the 4770K is struggling with what is essentially four GPUs, there's not much else out there that will handle them gracefully.

I'd say if you're not looking to spare expenses get a good LGA 2011 (4930K, or other some such CPU) processor and board. They'll cost you more as it's an expensive platform, but would undoubtedly handle your cards better. The 4770K I'm sure would do fine as well, but it's tough to say. The LGA 1150 / Z87 chipset combination would be cheaper, and it would pack just as powerful of a punch.

Most people say that but do the math.
4x290x=$2000
4x290x Water Blocks=$600
Radiators+Fans=$300
Pump=$70
Tubing=$30
Total=$3000
The 295x2 will outperform crossfire 290x just slightly once the resolutions get to triple screens and 4k. Also I am going to take apart the 295x2 shroud and paint it for a custom build I'm doing. I'm just interested if I need a 4930k to get the most out of my gpu or if a OC 4770k will suffice.
