Spent hours trying to figure this out to no avail. In a nutshell, I'm trying to have my router in our basement, a wireless AP (with WAN and LAN ports) on our main level, and want to connect that wireless AP via ethernet to our office PC.

It seems to pass certain checkpoints when attempting connection but bombs on DHCP. We're using Xfinity (comcast).

Unfortunately, our home is finished and running cable through the walls isn't an option. Wife would kill me if I tried to run cables along the wall/ceiling border haha.

That is because a AP is the reverse of what you need. You need a device that looks like a PC. These are normally called client-bridge but they are sold under the name of lan extender or repeaters. Some routers can do this and many can if you load dd-wrt. The simplest devices that can do this if you are going to buy one are called gaming adapters. If you plan to connect more than a single PC behind the device your main router must support WDS.....WDS is not a standard but most things work together. If you only have a single device your main router does not have to have any special support you just need to ensure the "extender" does not try to use WDS and runs in simple client-bridge mode.

It would likely be easier to use a USB wireless card on the office PC and if you don't get enough signal use a 15ft USB extension cable.
