Hey guys, so recently my computer has been acting funny. I'll list specs then I'll get to my problems.

-Asus M5a97 Mobo
-Phenom X4 965 BE @3.4Ghz
-8GB G-Skill Ripjawz DDR3 1333
-Sapphire Radeon HD 7870 2GB Ghz Edition
-500gb HDD
-Rosewill Stallion 500w PSU

Now the problems. I've been getting into pc gaming a lot more recently and I've noticed that when I play a game for long enough it will shut down. It started with my Radeon 6850 just shutting down after 1-2 hours of gameplay. I figured it was over heating so I added a couple case fans. I finally purchased a better GPU to play with more detail and with a better FPS boost. Here's the 2nd problem. My 7870 is getting the same FPS as 6850 and along with it shutting down. I did some digging and a Tom's hardware user recommended to another fellow gamer to stress test his pc using Intel's Burn Test. I downloaded it, ran it, and almost instantly it shut off. Now for the FPS issue, is my GPU being underpowered with a 500w PSU? I am currently using the 14.3 beta driver by AMD. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

OK so I may have figured out the shutting down issue. I ran Intel Burn Test one more time and I downloaded FanSpeed to monitor my temps. I set it to a lower stress test and worked my way up. My cpu was getting hot. Fast. It eventually shut down my pc at 62c which the interweb says is the max "safe" cpu core temp. I might be looking into getting a better heatsink when I get paid. Now I just gotta figure out the gpu problem.
