Question about xfx 6950 2gb

ok, here is what i found before i retracted it. ps4 has a strange 7870 in it. a 7870 is a fair bit better than a 6950. where it gets kind of funky is that it isnt a 7870 as we know it and im not entirely sure what has been changed. the die size is 88mm instead of like 200 and something mm. so, the cores are inside the cpu die, it is almost a SOC, system on a chip. which is different than a 7870 because a 7870 is a discrete gpu. so we have some mobile form of a 7870 in there. as to actual performance... i dont know! i mean, on paper they sound the same but in practice a ps4 is not performing anywhere near a 7870 with a good cpu in a pc. which makes me wonder, is it the gpu of the ps4 which is causing it to perform worse? is the cpu really holding everything back that much? is it the operating system? drivers? did they do something to the hardware i am not aware of?

on paper the ps4 might sound more powerful but in practice, i just dont see it.

i understand now... so if i have a 6950 2gb paired with a amd phenom II BE x6 core 1090t oc'd at 3.8ghz with 8gb ddr3 1600mhz im having a better experience over ps4 n xbox one? im upgrading my gpu real soon to r9 280x 3gb then upgrading cpu to 4770k or 5770k broadwell when it comes out later this year..

for me, the mouse alone makes it a better experience

that will be a nice upgrade.

as for graphics between your system and a ps4.. i would have to see some benchmarks of your system for somethiwng like battlefield 4, then compare them to what a ps4 is doing. which could be a bit difficult because we dont even know what a ps4 is running for settings in battlefield 4. they do turn the graphics down... they must, since they arent even getting 1080p@60 fps, which is certainly the target for both pc and console gamers.

ahh ok i see.. do u think me getting a 4770k is overkill for gaming? or i should get a 8350 from amd? or something lower end from intel? as long as its a quad core with hyperthreading tho.. also im getting that new GPU r9 280x and using it with my 6 core..

watchdogs is claiming some pretty hefty cpu requirements for ultra settings (though i have my doubts.)

mantle does seem to negate need for a high end cpu.

it does give you further upgrade room with gpus in the future.

i personally wouldnt call it overkill. i usually suggest an i5 over an i7, because hyperthreading in the past has been next to useless for gaming but again, watchdogs is claiming that you should have an i7.

which is the most high end i5 i can buy? and also since its quad core would it considered 8 core? i know hyperthreads makes a quad core a 8 core...

if i upgrade to a i7 4770k with a r9 280x 3gb, i will be better than ps4 right? and if so by how much? for now im just gonna upgrade to i7 4770k with new mobo unless i wait for the broadwell.. and just get a new gpu..
