Greetings everyone. First off, my system details:

Windows 7 Ultimate x64
Intel i7 965 Extreme
Asus Sabertooth x58
G.Skill 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3-1600

Radeon 7970
Catalyst 13.12
2x Samsung SMS24A350H (monitor)
1x Acer X263W (monitor) [Primary monitor]

Current Setup

| Samsung1 | Samsung2 | Acer |

Samsung1 is connected via an HDMI->DVI adapter
Samsung2 is connected via HDMI
Acer is connected via [HDMI->DVI Cable]->Active Mini Displayport Adapter

------------------------------

This issue started maybe 2.5-3 weeks ago. My problem is that my primary monitor (Acer) seems to randomly shut off. I've had this happen multiple times during different activities. The system doesn't change the monitor configuration at all, almost as if the monitor was powered off but it simply goes into standby mode.

When this happened the last time, I tried moving cables to different ports to see what happened. I've discovered that if I move cable of my primary monitor to the DVI port, the monitor comes back on, but as the screen of Samsung1. I tried connecting Samsung1 via [HDMI->DVI Adapter]->Active Mini displayport Adapter and Samsung1 did not come back on. (I'm not sure if this setup would have worked anyway but I tried it just to check.)

I also tried simply switching the Acer to the second mini displayport once it was in standby and that did not work to get the monitor to come back on.

So far the only way for me to fix this is to restart my PC and all my monitors will be back on.

I suppose this could be the mini displayport adapter but I'm not sure how to check for that. Could this be a software problem somehow?

I hope I provided enough information but if more is required, just ask.

Thanks in advance.

Update: I have traced this issue back to power consumption. The power strip I am using wasn't able to output the required power to my monitor so it shut off due to overcurrent protection.
