Hi, tomorrow I am getting a Gigabyte R9 270x OC Edition installed into my HP - Intel Core i5 2400 3.1GHz - 4GB (DDR3-1333 RAM) and I was just wondering if any experts could convince me if out of these three there is a better graphics card. My friend says Nvidia supports more games and that the GTX 660 is better than the R9 270x but I believe he is full of crap. What about the 7870 though? my objective is to run GTA IV icenhancer 2.1 on ULTRA and I want to know if it will process at above 30fps because the 7870 does it but I can't find info about the R9 270x so.. please help? I know it can run skyrim ENB's on ULTRA though... also what about next gen games like watch dogs and gta 5?

correct me someone else if i am wrong, but basically from what i read when choosing my card, is that the r9 270x is very much like the 7870 (same chip) just a bit better memory speed, especially the o/c'd version
i have the 4gb msi o/c version, seems like a great card for the price

The 270x is the same as the HD 7870 with upgraded memory, you can even crossfire them. There's no reason to buy a 270x though; you can get a 270 for $30 cheaper and overclock it to the same speeds. All three of these cards use the same 1280 core pitcairn/curacao GPU. A 660 ti is slightly more powerful than these cards but they don't manufacture it anymore so you'll have to buy used or see if somebody still has them in stock as most US retailers at least don't sell them. You mentioned 660 ti in the title and 660 in the description, which are you referring to? A 660 is slower than the 270x/270/ HD7870 by a small margin. My recommendation is the Gigabyte r9 270 as it's less than $200US new and will keep up with any of the cards you've listed.

you mean its possible to crossfire a 270x with a 7870?
can crossfire work at x16/x4 and is there a noticeable difference in performance?

Yeah crossfire works fine and an x4 lane is plenty for a midrange graphics card, you might get 3-5% bottlenecking if any at all, which obviously isn't worth upgrading a motherboard over. However, the extra memory speed of the 270x will go to waste if you don't get lucky with hynix memory on the HD 7870.

cool thnx. i was thinking future wise crossfiring two of the 4gb 270x i have would do well in crossfire, as from what i understand 2x 4gb cards still gives 4gb total memory because of the way it works in sync on both cards (or something like that, i dont know the technical terms)
thx and sorry for hijacking ;)
