My newly built PC is slower than what I think it should be.

This is my first PC build and everything, to my surprise, went quite smoothly. Except for the fact that when gaming its a bit slower than I think it could be, by judging it off people who have similar builds or builds with slightly worse specs. Are there any optimizations I can do to make it run that bit faster?

Build:
Intel core i3-4130
Geforce GTX 660
8gb crucial Ballistix Sport (1x 8gb)
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
MSI B85I
Corsair 500w PSU

Solution
Games like BF4 in multiplayer require 4+ core CPU's to handle all the other players and bells and whistles and the 750 Ti is only slighty better than a 650 Ti That I had and played BF4 on.... i played on medium-ish with AA off and Ambient occlusion set to SSAO....

What games have you been playing?

The i3 is a dual core processor. It has hyperthreading enabled, however it's always best that you select a quad core processor.
With games like BF4 it's essential that you have a quad core.

The rest of the specs look good.
