My newly built PC is slower than what I think it should be.

This is my first PC build and everything, to my surprise, went quite smoothly. Except for the fact that when gaming its a bit slower than I think it could be, by judging it off people who have similar builds or builds with slightly worse specs. Are there any optimizations I can do to make it run that bit faster?

Build:
Intel core i3-4130
Geforce GTX 660
8gb crucial Ballistix Sport (1x 8gb)
Seagate Barracuda 1TB
MSI B85I
Corsair 500w PSU

More about newly built slower
  1. Did you install the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website (not the cd drivers)?
Also what do you mean by slow performance? FPS? Loading times? etc...
  2. What games have you been playing?

The i3 is a dual core processor. It has hyperthreading enabled, however it's always best that you select a quad core processor.
With games like BF4 it's essential that you have a quad core.

The rest of the specs look good.

    Lower fps (10-20 fps lower)
  4. you have an i3 if you are playing current or recently released AAA titles it's going to stuggle...
  5. I based my PC off this build -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=43pXorOZ3MQ except I changed the Gpu and power supply from 430w+750ti -> 500w+660 I would assume the gtx 660 is faster than the 750ti?

On this build the guy gets 50 fps on bf4 on high on 1080p, whereas I don't get that whilst playing at 1366x768
  6. Oh my hell no.... 50 FPS with a 750 Ti with an i3 on BF4 with High settings.... this guy lied.... severely

Games like BF4 in multiplayer require 4+ core CPU's to handle all the other players and bells and whistles and the 750 Ti is only slighty better than a 650 Ti That I had and played BF4 on.... i played on medium-ish with AA off and Ambient occlusion set to SSAO....
