Hello,

I am building a new system with the intention on becoming somewhat of a gamer. I have never really been interested in games but want to start. My question is when it comes to games series such as Crysis for example, are you better off starting with he first game in the series or does it matter? I would like to start from the beginning, but on the other hand I am itching to see what this new build will do.

Solution
It does not matter when or with what part of the series you start :)
I tend to buy the newest one to begin with.
Just look around in youtube and try to find out which games you will like.

Here are things you could try to look at:
Torchlight 2
Skyrim
Tropico 4
Diablo 3
Titan Fall
StarCraft
Mass Effect 2 + 3
Battlefield 4
Tomb Raider
Bioshock Infinite

There are more of course :)

BTW: what is the specs of your pc?

Well, if we're going to use Crysis as an example... The 1st Crysis still looks better than most games made today so you should start from the beginning. Other series like Battlefield and the Elder Scrolls all basically have independent story lines, but the games happen in the same universe (or time'space continuum or whatever the correct word is) so you can start with Skyrim without playing the older games and still fully understand the story.

Well, as far as the games. About a year ago I bought the Mass Effect trilogy, but I never really got started in them. I think that I am not the RPG type. I am getting older now and I really don't like to think that much. LOL I was thing of Crysis or something that I could find that was more point and shoot. As far as my computer. I started this about a month ago. I heard that SSD was the way to go, so I bought two to RAID them. That is when I found out about the difference between SATA 2 and SATA 3, which led to a new 990 motherboard, which led to a new 700 watt power supply, which led to an MSI R9 270. I already had 8 GB of Gskill 1866 memory and an AMD FX 6300 CPU. oh yeah and a 1TB hard drive Thanks for your reply.

I would say in the Crysis series you should start with Crysis or Crysis Warhead, both of these take place at the same time, just from different soldiers points of view. Then move on to Crysis 2 then 3. They don't rely on you playing the previous titles, but if you have them, why not play chronologically.

If you play Skyrim and want to test your system there are several ENB mods on the Nexus that make the environment really immersive, but can have steep drops in framerate. Just make sure to follow the instructions on install/load order or things can get goofy (bad/missing textures, crashes.)
