  1. Here are the head-to-head benchmarks

Looks like the 280x and the 770 are very comparable cards.

What resolution do you play at? You won't need 4Gb if you're playing at 1920 x 1080.

Which would sli/cfx better? Nvidia has historically been better at delivering drivers and resolving issues. I can't tell you if AMD has caught up or surpassed though.
  2. If I was selecting between the two I would go by price alone.
SLI at the moment has less issues than Crossfire.

the 770 and 280x are very close cards stock vs stock.

Are etiher version superclocked from the factory? do you plan to OC even further?

Here's my directly relevant personal history with this situation.

I had 7950 crossfire (the 280x is basically a 7970) - It was a HUGE headache all the time when it came to drivers, crossfire issues, and games crashing.

When the bitcoin explosion took off, i GLADLY sold my 7950s for more than i paid for them new.

I immediately bought two 770 4gbs for SLI and life has been golden! everything JUST WORKS!
the power/idle states work, adaptive Vsync, cards scale great... it's no long a question of 'will i be able to play more than 30 minutes without some sort of driver/gpu crash'

i have a 2560x1440 120hz Qnix monitor. I do actually use more than 2gb of VRAM.
in arkham origin last night, with everything turned up to the max... i was using nearly 3gb of VRAM and getting between 60-90fps.
(my cards are superclocked, then i cranked them up even higher)
