1 X 2gb ram showing up as 1gb ram

Hi,

Have asus p5kpl-am mother board.

windows 7 64 bit home premium

intel dual core e6800 3.33ghz
ati radeon HD 4500

i was running 2 x 1gb ram

decided to buy
2 x 2gb pc2-6400 800 mhz

when i put into pc they show as 2x 2gb, when each put in seperately they show as 1x 1gb

i cant get it to show more than 1 gb per stick i have enabled mapping in bios, still nothing

an one got a suggestions, is this ram really compatible

What's the motherboard model?
How much RAM does it support?

How many slots are there? Make sure you paired it correctly.

that mother baord supports 4 gb

2 ram slots which i have put the 1x2gb in each

what do you mean by paired up correctly

Pairing won't matter, there's only two slots

Did you try pulling them out and putting them back in?

Did you try 1 stick at a time to see if it reads it correctly?

I have tried swapping them over and putting them in one by one.

when i put them in one by one it shows only 1 gb still. in bios and in the windows checks.

is there anything else i should try and do ?

Go into the BIOS and verify that the RAM speed and timings match the RAM you purchased.

This is what i purchased,

im in advanced jumper free and all the settings are on auto DRAM freq gives me the option of 667 800 or 1067,

memory over voltage - min 1.85 max 2.24 - standard 1.85

there is no overclock utilites just
ai overclocking
dram freq
mem over volt
1.25 over volt
cit_cpu over volt
1.5 over volt
vcore volt

every thing is set to auto

What's the voltage of your RAM and what speed should it be set to? And match those settings the BIOS

still nothing after setting this, do you think they could be just 1 gb sticks from a dogdey seller on ebay, i find this hard to believe

i was reading some where about ram can be dual sided and some mother boards dont work dual side so only show half the memory is this a possiblility

after speakin with the supplier, it turns out that the ram i bought was high density, and he thinks i need low density, does this sound right?
