GTX 770 now and 800 series later?

So i'm not sure if i should go with a GTX 770 or a GTX 780 now and when the 800 series cards come out wait a little bit and then purchase an 800 series card probably the 880... I currently want to get the 780 ti since it is amazing but since the 800 series are going to come out soon i'm not sure if it is worth the wait because if i blow $700 on a 780 ti i cant get another card for quite a bit of time but if i shoot down to $300-$500 for the 770 or the 780 i can afford a new card within the time frame the 800 series cards come out... if anyone can help give me guidance in my situation it would be much appreciated.

I plan on playing BF4 and new games with this build.

it seems like a september release for the high 800 series.

do you really want to wait 4.5 months? I guess it depends on what you have currently to tie you over.

If you have your hear set on the 880, why not pickup something used on ebay to tie you over until then? maybe a used 670 or 680? Then resell when 880 comes out.... that's the best way to minimize losses.

Well if you get a 780Ti now you should be good for a couple of more generations! If you wait then you push it back a generation but maybe not looking at the GTX750 cards being Maxwell having most of the improvement in power efficiency not so much performance.

In 4 years it is still a viable card, currently it is overkill for 1080P and I really belief it will be at least a good mid range performer then.

The 780 Ti is not overkill @ 1080p. There are quite a few games that will challenge it.

There is not that many games that do that! Around 99% of games run max settings on GTX770 with acceptable FPS..

Just because SOME people are fine with 30-60fps on Ultra, doesn't make the 780 Ti overkill @ 1080p. Some people prefer to never dip below 60fps, and some people like to get as much fps as possible (almost always with 120 or 144hz monitors). Both cases would require more than a 770.

It all comes down to user preference. Keyword would be "acceptable." Not everyone shares the same view as you, so if someone is asking advice, and YOU think the 780 Ti is overkill, then they might be taking your opinion as fact.

I can say with first hand experience that I was expecting more out of my 780 Ti because of people like you. I often see people saying that a 780 Ti is overkill @ 1080p, but when I actually installed it and started playing, it's not. Not at all.

When I say overkill my meaning is why spend double when you can get card in $300 range that can handle that resolution!

Most people will not see past 30-40FPS and nobody past 60FPS on average we blink our eyes 10times a min.

30-40 fps is choppy. I have a hard time believing that people can't tell the difference between 30 FPS and 60 FPS. I used to be a hardcore gamer, but still, it's pretty obvious.

A real world example would be moving from 24 fps to 48 fps. have you seen an IMAX movie in 48 fps? It's like a whole new technology when compared to 24 fps. Some people were literally getting motion sickness when watching the new Hobbit moves @ 48fps. It's that drastic of a change.
