Keyboard doesn't shut off for sleep mode

Basically- I put my computer to sleep when I don't use it: however lately I noticed it doesn't shut down, or if it does only for a second before booting back up. And why I know its the keyboard? When the screen loads back up the + button acts like its pressed down and makes a mess with whatever is pulled up: if that be sticky notes, start menu, pulling up firefox and trying to type. The only way I know how to "fix" this is to unplug the keyboard from the USB. But this doesn't actually fix anything as to why the keyboard won't shut off.
 
Solution
Lets start with the basics shall we. What is your OS and what is the troublesome keyboard in question (as in brand and model)? Have you ensured the key depressor is not broken by taking the key off and looking under it.
